The Abbey and its grounds are home to some wonderful sculptural art from Br Joseph Mc Nally, a native of Ballintubber. The Abbey features work by nationally and internationally renowned artist and sculptor Imogen Stuart. The Abbey also features wonderful stained glass windows, icons and painting. Works include those by Ballintubber-based artist Susie Smith.

Br Joseph McNally

A native of Ballintubber, Br Joseph McNally, left an enduring mark on his homeland through his remarkable artistic contributions. He dedicated his life to both his faith and his passion for the arts. Three of his stunning works are in the local region, with two of them at Ballintubber itself. The Mother and Child and St. Patrick are beautiful sculptures set in the gardens at The Abbey.

Monumental Gifts

The Br Joseph McNally sculptures at Ballintubber Abbery were generously donated by him in celebration of the new millennium. The realisation of this artistic vision was made possible through extensive fundraising efforts by the local community, who joined hands to bring these exceptional works of art to The Abbey.

Immogen Stuart Sculptures

A sculptor whose work gained vast international attention and recognition, Imogen Stuart was one of Ireland’s foremost artists of the last century. The German-Irish sculptor created The Stations of the Cross in 1972, sculptures which adorn the walls of The Abbey. They are notable in their beauty, meaning and importance in the artistic life of Ireland.
